Edit Me--Week 22

Time for another Edit Me Challenge! Whoo.

Photobucket
Original photo

The picture this week was lovely. I really liked the composition and feel of this old barn, so I tried to keep my edit simple and as close to the original beauty as possible. I first tried an edit in Picasa, but was unsatisfied with the colors (and then deleted it, so I'm sorry you won't get to see), so I decided to try the editing program on Google+. I like editing here because you can apply some edits to only selected areas, which was exactly what I was looking for.

My goal was to keep the sky and clouds present while still making the barn vivid. To do this, I started off with the "Boost" option and only applied it to the barn and flowers. After that, I did "Tint" and chose the Darken option, I believe, to give it a little warmer color. After a few more adjustments and adding a little of "Soften" to just the sky and flowers, this was my 2nd edit.

Photobucket
my 2nd edit
And I was fine with this edit up until a few minutes ago. I had this post published and linked, but then I decided to go to another website like Picnik that I had never tried before...PicMonkey. I uploaded the original photo to play around with just to get a feel for the site, and I ended up really liking the edit, so I decided to enter it instead of my 2nd Edit, haha.

To be honest, I don't remember a lot of what I did. I know I started off by upping the contrast and sharpening the image a bit, and then went down the list of effects and applied the ones I liked, and at the very end I added a little texture.

So here is my 3rd and final edit:

I hope everyone has  a great last half of the week. =)

Soul, Skin, and Mind

Photobucket

I was searching for proof—some evidence—
Well, I've come upon it.
A soul, a body, and a mind, certainly—
a memory—I've come upon it.
When he would sing with joy-filled eyes
but bloodthirsty, ravenous, craving fresh flesh—
a harpoon through my heart; strung to his back—
Why?—I've come upon it.

It is the mind that plays a shape-shifting game—
a persona of him created by me—
a fictitious embellishment of a false hope—
something more to cling to, is all.
A trick of the mind—a mirage—but proof
that my soul does not want, my skin does not want,
but my mind—its own entity—craves him, ideal.
Aha!—You see? I’ve come upon it.

Accent & Etc.

My friend Katy at Sanguine Eyes posted this accent video yesterday and I really liked the idea, so I decided to take a stab at it, because I knew I'd be home alone tonight.

The only problem was that I didn't know if I had a camera with video shooting options that I'd be able to use. I tried using my laptop's webcam but I couldn't get the audio to work (any ideas why?) so I whipped out my Canon and tried to figure out how to use the video option on that. I knew it had it, but I had never been able to figure it out before and never tried too hard to research it.

Anyway, after fiddling around with it, I figured it out and put my tripod to good use. Please excuse how horribly awkward I am--it's been years since I've done a video.

Also, the jingling you hear is my dog, Romeo.

Here's the words and questions:
  • Your name
  • Where you’re from.
  • Pronounce the following words: Aunt, Roof, Route, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Pajamas, Caught, Naturally, Aluminium, GIF,  Crackerjack, Doorknob, Envelope.
  • What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
  • What is a bubbly carbonated drink called?
  • What do you call gym shoes?
  • What do you call your grandparents?
  • What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
  • What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
  • Choose a book and read a passage from it.
  • Do you think you have an accent?

It was fun, I guess. And I'm glad I figured out how to use the video on my camera.

In other news, we caught a raccoon on our deck last night:

Photobucket

I know, I know--he's adorable. No worries, though. He has been relocated to a new, safe home.

Also, I saw The Avengers today with my sister. It's...alright. We also went shopping and I--shockingly--bought a dress. I actually bought a girly, colorful dress. I'd show you pictures now, but I'm thinking photo shoot next week...? We'll see.

I would also like to say that my boyfriend Deacon is at the Grand Canyon right now with three other boys from my church and if you could pray for their safety, it'd be much appreciated. I miss him like crazy and I just hope they come home safely.

Now time to get back to The Emperor's New Groove!!

Away at the Moment

The things I miss
are temporary, I suppose--
worn tennis shoes, seventh grade,
late night chats on social networks,
a glorious afternoon without time restraints,
the rain, the snow, the autumn leaves,
talking verbally to the face or the phone,
the slow release of lying back
on dark, hard pavement in the middle of the street
at night with two friends--and that makes you friends.

But now I miss you with all of your secrets
that you share and I share and we share as one,
your little details and idiosyncrasies,
the weight of your head against my shoulder,
the length and texture of your hair that needs cut,
the feel of your palm and road map of lines
that slide against mine as we tangle our fingers,
the clean scent that follows you after a morning shower,
a welcoming smile, an embrace as a greeting,
a kiss on the forehead that lingers afterwards,
and understanding that passes like language through eyes.

This too, I know, is only temporary--
you are away at the moment, but for only a moment.
Tomorrow or after, you will return home
and this day will be wiped from my memory,
and I will not dwell on what is temporary.

Nineteen Years Later...

I am still a teenager.
But I am one step closer to not.

Photobucket

On Friday, I turned nineteen. I had to work that day, to no surprise, but the day was still pretty alright. Most of it was spent at home, doing laundry and taking pictures of Romeo, watching Star Wars with Deacon, and just enjoying the pleasant atmosphere of my house during the morning.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

The started off with me having to take Karlee to work. And when I got back, Mum had left for work, but had left me a nice little gift, in the form of a list of chores:

Photobucket

But that was alright. I got some nice presents from my friends. Karlee got me The Lion King 2 (eek! with joy) and Deacon got me the Planet Earth series on DVD and a Pokemon search & find book (like Where's Waldo? books). Jenna got me another Pokemon book of games and puzzles, a case of bottled orange soda (yum!) and a Vanilla Ice CD (greatest hits)...because every year it seems she has to get me some obscure CD.

All I really wanted was Dirt Cake, which was a little problematic because Mum doesn't really know how to make it. On Saturday, though, Deacon came over, and then told me that he had good news, then told me there was dirt cake in my refrigerator. And there was! Apparently he had asked his mom to make it for me, and so she had made it the night before. It was so spectacular, and sweet. The best gift ever.

In other news, I think I've decided to start working on a story that I started four years ago. A lot of it is developed, and I've posted portions and sections of it on here before, but I had fallen away from it and now I want to get back into it, especially since I'll have some free time this summer. Hopefully.

So I'm  hoping I can get some of that written. I'm only 15 pages into it so far...but like I said, a lot of it has been developed, it just needs to be written. Haha.

Anyway, I hope that everyone is having a great week. I'll wrap this up with a poem I wrote during church yesterday:

Woven

A seam, a stitch, a fabric run
pulled and woven through heartstrings and time
connects this moment through the years.
I am present, I am future,
I am standing here in the now, in the past—
nineteen turned forward from initiation—
still unraveling my destiny,
still surrounded by friends and foes,
still in the midst of misses and losses,
still conjuring images from the ages,
still beating, breathing, seeing, sleeping,
                                                feeling,
                                                kneeling,
                                                knowing,
                                                healing.

And one more of the pooch:

I, unfortunately, will not be graduating (with my AA) until after my two summer classes. Eh.
Almost there, though.

Edit Me--Week 20

I haven't done an Edit Me in so long! I really liked this week's picture, so I took a quick whack at it. It took me about 5 minutes of playing around on Picasa.
The kitty is so cute!!

Photobucket

Though, this week the prize is a Photoshop workshop, and I don't have Photoshop, so I'm kind of ineligible for that. That's alright though. It was still a fun picture.

Jeremiah & Mikayla // Couple Portraits, part 1

First off, I just had an amazing banana. I mean, we're talking the best banana ever. Just thought you should know.

Second off, pictures!
I had the privilege of taking pre-Prom pictures of two of my friends, Jeremiah and Mikayla. Editing them has been such a struggle for me so far...it got pushed back due to Finals (which are officially over with!!) and frustration due to Picnik changing locations to Google+. I've been so nervous about not editing them well that I've been doing two or three versions of the good ones just to make sure that they have variety of ones to like.

I have a couple of them edited and they're so cute, so I thought I'd share them for this week's Shoot.Edit.Submit. =)

Also, I'm not used to uploading these off of my Google+ account, so if something goes wrong and they don't show up or anything, please let me know.

As a sidenote, I had a doctor's appointment today because I've been excessive exhausted during the past month or so, and many of my close friends and family have asked if I'm anemic. I have to get some bloodwork done, a chest X-ray and everything, but don't be too concerned about it. We're just making sure everything's A-okay. I have a follow-up appointment next week to discuss the results with my doctor, so I'll know more then.

I got called into work early tomorrow, so I better go to sleep.

Yay for summer break! Haha.

I have had to miss you.

Although separated, as two will become,
my life continued, though regrettably not
as much as yours--the forward launch.
But I have had to miss you
at one point or another.
Never consistently--I could not afford it--
the cost of tears and nostalgia and such
are far too high for my pathetic budget.
But Happy Friendship Day to you, anyway.
I know it's not a real holiday,
I know it's not enough to hold
together the thread that's been worn by ten years,
but I've thought of you. I have loved you,
and will no matter who you'll meet--
I will no matter the words you speak,
no matter the answers and questions you seek.
I've missed you; I'll see you
again--alive and well in my memories.

Cupcake, anyone?

Well, I'm sad that Picnik is gone from its original location, because though I was totally against it for the majority of its duration, I started using it last year and kind of got attached. It isn't gone forever, though--it has been moved to Google+, which would be great if I actually used my Google+ account. The upside is that if I upload a picture on Google+, edit it, and then go to my Picasa Web Albums on Blogger, the edited picture is right there.

Google truly does rule the internet, I'm starting to realize.
The above picture was edited entirely on Google+, and I think it turned out alright. Maybe Picnik's move will encourage me to use it more?

Maybe not. I'm already on enough social networking sites as it is!

Oh!--And thank you to everyone who has been praying that my finals go by well, because so far they are! I'm officially done forever with American Political Systems, Poetry and the Human Experience, Creative Nonfiction, and Wellness Center (ha!)--all finished with A's! ANNND I currently have a 92.3% in my American Literature class--that's including the Final Paper and Final that I took yesterday, which was completely terrible and stressful, but I did really well on--all I have left are two more discussion posts, and done forever! The posts are due by 5...so I'm going to start on them after I'm done here, I promise. =)

The only thing left to do is take my Biology final on Monday. I have a 93% in that class right now so I'm not too concerned, but I have definitely scheduled myself to study Sunday afternoon.

Also, I could only sell back one book this semester, which was kind of a bummer. I was really hoping on getting about $80 off of my Bio book, but they are changing editions next year. I got $44 off of my Creative Nonfiction book, though. Whoo-hoo!

Anyway, I'm off to do my final homework in Lit, and then I'll probably edit some pre-prom pictures of the beautiful Mikayla and Jeremiah.

Friendly Reunion at Elephant Rocks

Photobucket
Jenna, my best friend ever.

Photobucket

Back in like, March....some of my best friends and I went to Elephant Rocks. I hadn't seen Jenna in SO long, so it was really great.

Photobucket
Jenna and Jimmy

Me and Deacon
I'm really sorry that I haven't posted these pictures yet. I thought I had, but noticed yesterday that I never did. (Although many of them have been scattered here and there.) It's just been so crazy this last month.

Speaking of which, my finals are among me, but all of the big stuff is behind me. I had to write a huge paper for American Literature. It turned out to be 12 pages long, 8 of which I wrote last night, the night before it was due. I can't believe I let myself get that far behind. It was absolutely ridiculous.

I have a picture of her doing this from a few years ago, so we wanted to reenact it. By a happy coincidence, she was wearing the exact same shirt. I'm not 100% sure where I can find the original photo, but I'll definitely add it in if I find it. =)
